The crowd of eager seniors and their families’ cheer, as their favorite nominee walks to the main stage to get recognized for their exemplary service to the Thousand Oaks community. All honored by selected city officials, the tables whispered who they thought should get honored, “Senior of the Year.” I congratulate Patricia L. Grant, a resident of Thousand Oaks for 53 years, for making this community a better place to live.

The Senior of the Year Dinner & Award Ceremony was my first attended event at the Goebel Adult Community Center, and I have to admit after chatting with some of the regulars, they got me interested in attending several events, Bingo, being one shortly. As I got introduced to Sada Gallagher, known as Annie, by her friend, that nominated her; she won me over with all her grace and commitment to the community. She feeds the crowded auditorium during the Bingo Days and nights. Three times a week, sometimes more. Bingo is the biggest hit in the Goebel Adult Community Center, and I look forward to attending a few games in hopes of a chance to shout, B-I-N-G-O.

I sat there pondering how can I give back to this amazing crowd myself. I thought, why not offer my exemplary real estate service. After all, I am a Senior Certified Specialist, and I love what I do, so why not give back to the community myself. I introduced myself while handing out heavy duty bags that everyone seemed to love for purposes such as storing groceries after shopping at the local market. I left with a warm feeling of gratitude, and I thanked everyone I met tonight. So we shall meet again with a dabber in one hand and a handful of paper cards in the other.
